Laura Loe

Laura Loe Artist Laura Loe is the owner of Nimrod Hall and has been director of the artist workshops since 1997. This week is for the advanced artist who is looking for guidance on their own voice. This is not a week for the beginner artists as there will not be formal critiques and formal lessons, but aimed at those who work hard, expect themselves to embrace change, and have an open mind to feed off the other artists in the group. Laura will talk to every artist every day one on one yet not try to guide the artist away from his or her unique approach but encourage that growth. Director of the artist workshops and owner of Nimrod Hall, Laura has been a professional oil painter since 1996, taught at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Studio School for over a decade, shows in many galleries, has won many awards for oil paintings and was recently chosen as a Woman in the Arts award recipient in Richmond, VA. Andras Bality / Diego Sanchez

Andras Bality To know Andras Bality is to love him, but to be able to learn from him is a true treat. Andras will be coming to Nimrod for his 7th summer to the happiness of all of us who benefit from his sheer love of painting and his complete disregard for painting what is expected. A professional artist, Andy has won many awards for his work and has shown in galleries nationwide. His work is loose yet focused and shimmers in his own unique way and he is able to pick out, in his paintings, the perfect object to emphasize while letting other elements work as ancillary supporting structure. HIs work has been featured in many national publications and he is well represented in galleries around the country. For more information and to see his resume visit www.andrasbality.com. Process is his love and his work focuses on experimentation, with new materials and new techniques. The perfect instructor for a new energy and direction in your work. Rosalie White / Jessie Coles

Rosalie White is as much a fixture at Nimrod Hall as the deer heads in the dining room! She has been with us, at Nimrod Hall, for so many years yet still can just find things over and over to paint in her signature, small, yet terrifically impactful style. She is a plein air painter who can take to the scene with a cigar box fashioned into a paint box and come away with a masterpiece...before breakfast! Her supportive style works with any painter looking to improve their own skills whose paintings are small, large or in between. She is someone who understands the plein air approach and can share that with you.  Rosalie comes to us as a valued instructor at the Beverly Street Studio School in Staunton, VA, and teaches in Lynchburg to a dedicated group of painters. Jessie Coles is a Charlottesville artist who we are excited to have at Nimrod for her first year. Her work is a vibrant hive of paint strokes that work together to create a harmonious still life.  The works are approached with a loose and indirect painterly feel creating a glancing moment in time of well established objects that you see every day. Her love of painting is apparent and she says that,”energy and movement are the real subject of my still life paintings.” All Levels are welcome.  For more of her work and resume visit www.jessiecolespainting.weebly.com

Purnell Pettyjohn

Anne Walker

Fielding Archer

Purnelle Pettyjohn You would be hard pressed to find someone who approaches life with as much sheer pleasure as Purnell and her teaching style reflects her personality. She will be hands on more than some weeks because watercolor demands technical help that some other mediums escape, yet you can elect to do as much or as little as you would like as far as group demonstrations and structure. Purnell teaches watercolor in Lynchburg, Virginia, and infuses her work with her personality- fun and whimsical! She will be teaching more technical approaches as watercolor is an incredible demanding medium. Her approach is colorful while emphasizing light and shadow to create form. All levels of watercolorists are welcome. For more of her work and resume visit www.purnellpettyjohn.com

Fielding Archer      Fielding Archer has a unique way of painting a still life that is very light handed but solid and powerful in completion. He will be using this weekend to help his students understand the key elements to still life and to give pointers that he has learned along the way. He will also help with the initial “set up” that is so key to the end result but sometimes approached too casually.  Fielding graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking.   An award winner in national juried exhibitions, Fielding's art is included in museum, private and corporate collections. He will focus on all oil painting with all levels welcome. See his work at www.fieldingarcher.com

Open Studio / Artist Retreat

Open Studio/Artist Retreat will be held for visual artists, photographers, writers, collage artists, yogi’s or virtually any other reason you would have to want to be alone to work but with a creative group to inspire and enjoy. These are the weeks of August 9 and August 16. Owner/Artist Laura Loe, will facilitate this week, but not be formally teaching. This week is held during the time at Nimrod Hall when families will also be enjoying Nimrod which lends a more casual and fun loving feel to the stay. Because we will be sharing with the families, participants will stay in the newly upgraded Square House but a private studio will also be provided for each applicant. These weeks are perfect for those artists getting ready for a show who need to power work, or just for the person who needs space to get messy and create and maybe have a little time alone at a wonderful place during the best month of the summer for our ice cold pond.

All mediums. Limit 8 participants. Studio Included.

Due to the limited number of rooms available the workshop will be limited to 8 people. This is perfect for the person who just can’t get enough time at Nimrod.
